On April 22 – 24, the Taiwanese delegation visited Alta Murgia in Puglia as part of the bilateral CNR (Italy)\u2013NSTC (Taiwan) project<\/strong>. Alta Murgia is one of the case study areas of the MONALISA project<\/strong> (MONitoring and Assessing Prevention and Restore solutions to combat desertification).<\/span><\/p>\n

On April 22nd the CNR and the Taiwan teams presented their research activities to strenghen their collaboration patterns.<\/p>\n

April 23rd was dedicated to the social sciences<\/strong>: The group retraced the history of the landscape, the main territorial challenges and the creation of the Alta Murgia National Park<\/strong> thanks to Piero Castoro, “Torre di Nebbia<\/strong>” cultural association. In the afternoon, the group discovered how grazing and cheesemaking are organized in Alta Murgia at “Masseria Scalera<\/strong>“. Finally, they visited the “Museo sull’Uomo di Altamura<\/strong>“, which houses the full remains of a Homo Neanderthalensis found in the area.<\/p>\n

On April 24th, the focus shifted to the natural sciences: they visited Clara, the Eddy covariance tower in PNAM<\/strong>, managed by CNR-IIA, a key instrument for measuring carbon exchanges between ecosystems and the atmosphere.\u00a0 The group also learned about fire risks in the Murgia region with ARIF Puglia<\/strong>, and visited restoration sites where Nature-based Solutions have been implemented.<\/p>\n

The two days were organized by CNR-IIA, Lisa Sella<\/a>, Francesca Silvia Rota<\/a> and Elena Ragazzi<\/a> participated for CNR-IRCrES<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
