Abstract The IRCRES task within the PRAE project focuses on the industrial characteristics of the stone sector in Piedmont. The study uses public data as well as results of the IRES survey on the sector. We process data to analyse the main economic variables of the industry, such as turnover, employment, added value, as well as data at the firm size level and data on import-export. In addition, we consider the flows of material (tons of goods handled) to understand the socalled “material balance and resource flows” at regional level. When possible, the study focuses on the following subsectors: materials for construction and infrastructures; ornamental stones, industrial materials. Through direct interviews to leading companies and local experts we carry on a SWOT analysis on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks of the stone sector in Piedmont. |
