Abstract
This chapter examines scientific production on occupational ageing through an integrated approach combining bibliometric analysis and qualitative discourse coding. Drawing on a corpus of 417 Italian- and English-language contributions selected according to PRISMA-inspired criteria, the study reconstructs the main discursive configurations structuring the field of active ageing between 2019 and
2024. The findings reveal a significant increase in scientific output alongside a strong thematic focus on individuals who remain in the labour market. This selectivity produces what can be defined as an “optical illusion of inclusion”, obscuring trajectories of early exit, forced inactivity, and embodied vulnerability.
Four areas of discursive silence emerge: corporeality, early labour market exit, gender in its intersectional implications, and the Italian context. The article introduces the concept of embodied precarity to capture a form of structural vulnerability inscribed in the body through cumulative physical wear. Methodologically, it shows how literature can be used to map the morphology of a field of knowledge.
