Abstract

In the twentieth century, the European labour market was affected by deep changes, which contributed to the redefinition of the regulatory framework of employment insertions. The strategy pursued by Europe has been oriented towards the deregulation of the labour market, in order to increase its internal flexibility and make the mobility of individuals more dynamic. However, the results of this process was different for each country. The Italian case is emblematic because since the end of the 1990s, many labour market reforms have been carried out and the outcome has been twofold: on the one hand, they have led to the selective and partial deregulation of the labour market, on the other to its polarization and segmentation. This study aims to contribute to the debate on the weakness of youth transitions in Italy, providing interpretative tools to capture the specificities and differences compared to European countries, through an in-depth literature review.

Keywords: Labour market, youth transitions, welfare regimes.
