Andrea Orazio Spinello is a researcher at the CNR-IRCrES, Rome Unit.

He holds a Master’s degree in Sociology, and a second-level University Master programme in ‘Evaluation of Local Development Interventions’ from the University of Catania, and a Ph.D. in Communication, Research, Innovation (with a specialization in Social Science Methodology) from Sapienza University of Rome.

His research focuses on Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) studies, with particular emphasis on:

  • Research and Development (R&D) policies, including public funding mechanisms and the assessment of the alignment between public research investments and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
  • Research evaluation and transformations in research practices;
  • Universities’ public engagement.

 

Currently, Andrea is the scientific responsible of the Online Research Panel (ORP) of the PNRR-IR project FOSSR – Fostering Open Science in Social Science Research, where he also serves as Work Package leader for training activities and as a member of the Executive Committee.

Furthermore, he leads the CNR local unit for the PRIN 2022 project ‘PLACES’, which investigates universities’ public engagement in Italy, France and the UK.

In addition, he participates in the European Research Infrastructure for Science and Innovation Policy Studies (RISIS), where he manages two datasets within the Italian node: EFIL and JoREP 2.0.

Andrea teaches Quantitative Methods for User Research at LUMSA University.
