Abstract

Cultural and creative industries (CCIs) support the development and well-being of local communities and positively interact with the tourism market (Richards, 2020). Several elements of these activities hint at their key role in post-pandemic recovery (Travkina & Sacco, 2020; Salvador, Navarrete, & Srakar, 2022) and in the building of smarter and more resilient communities (UNESCO & World Bank, 2021). In some cities, CCIs have become structurally significant (Scott, 2000) and contribute to defining the paradigm of the “creative city”, a place where the “creative class” gathers (Florida, 2002). However, the distribution of these activities is not ubiquitous but invests different portions of the urban fabric in different ways. The case study concerns Turin, which has evolved from being a working-class city with an industrial monoculture towards economic diversification. This is characterised by a certain presence of cultural and creative enterprises, with culture professionals serving both the industrial sector and the cultural needs of citizens and tourists.

Keywords: Torino, cultural and creative enterprises, local development.
