Mario De Marchi has been working at IRCrES since the foundation of the institute. He deals with innovation theory and public policies for scientific and technological progress. His main recent contributions concern the taxonomic approach to the analysis of modes in which rational knowledge increases.

Mario De Marchi began his career as  research by an internship in 1988, in which he performed a study about the foundations of industrial policies, with particular regard to innovation policies. Then, he started the path of tenure track dealing with different approaches to theories of innovation, taxonomical evolutionary and and mainstream. In this phase of his career De Marchi tried to perform empirical tests on abstract models. Then he reached logical-theoretical syntheses linked with the problem of measurement of causes and outcomes of innovation processes. Within these syntheses discussions were carried out which brought about new classifications of Scientific and Technological Indicators based upon original criteria. Such study currently is at the centre of De Marchi’s professional interest.
