Research Infrastructures

Research infrastructures in the field of social and economic sciences play a crucial role in supporting excellence in research at national and European levels. These infrastructures provide access to facilities, expertise, data, and advanced tools essential for conducting high-quality studies and promoting informed policy development. Through collaboration among various entities such as universities, governmental bodies, and businesses, research infrastructures also facilitate research training, applied research, innovation, and technology transfer. By promoting principles of Open Science and Open Innovation, they significantly contribute to the growth of knowledge and the resolution of contemporary social challenges.
Within the IRCRES institute, there is the research infrastructure RISIS, a European structure involving 18 prestigious partners including universities and research institutes. Its main objective is to promote the development of a new generation of analyses and indicators in the field of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI), by enhancing the accessibility, transparency, and interoperability of research data.
Additionally, it provides innovative services and tools that assist researchers in producing advanced analyses, including those aimed at supporting evidence-based policymaking.

FOSSR aims to promote open science in social sciences research in Italy through the Italian Open Science Cloud. The goal is to simplify
access to social sciences data while maintaining and enhancing Italian nodes of infrastructures like CESSDA-ERIC, SHARE-ERIC, and RISIS. An IT infrastructure with data centers in Italy will be established, providing a virtual platform for the scientific community, students,
and the public. The project includes an Open Science Cloud to facilitate data access and usage, improve research methodologies, and
support young researchers through specialized training.
